My Story

Hi, I’m Anouska. I'm a passionate knitter, creative soul, and a seeker of life's glimmers. I was born in The UK, and am now based in Italy, near Milan. The world of knitting with its textures, patterns, and endless colour combinations fuels my inspiration and since starting I can't stop!

So I created AnouskaKnits to share my journey, celebrate the joys of knitting, and connect with fellow makers like you!

How I Got Here

Knitting is more than a hobby... it’s a way for me to find community, express creativity, embrace challenges, learn new things, and find joy through the process of making. From the moment I cast on to the final blocked knit, I've found that every project has its own vibe and story. That in itself inspires me to keep knitting and keep creating!

I learnt to knit when I was very young because my grandma taught me, but I didn't have the patience for it. Then, suddenly in September/October 2021 I felt an unexplainable urge to start knitting! I had absolutely no idea where to start, so I asked for a beginner knit kit for Christmas from my family and once I got going, I loved every second of it. Since that first very chunky infinity scarf, I've discovered a world I love, learnt more than I knew there was to learn, started sharing my knits on Instagram and am now venturing into sharing tutorials and writing my own patterns!

When I’m not obsessively knitting, you can find me exploring the outdoors, enjoying Milan, photographing my cats, tending to my balcony garden, cozying up on the sofa with an addictive podcast (recommendations always welcome!), or just dancing around my apartment to feel good playlists!

Why I Knit

I knit to create moments of calm in a busy and sometimes overwhelming world, to embrace and even love imperfection because it makes something unique and special, and to revel in the process instead of rushing to get to the end result.

In knitting I feel close to my late grandma, who was a master knitter, especially while I'm knitting the vintage patterns she left to me and I find her hand-scribbled notes all over the pattern booklets. It's like having her knitting next to me!

What I knit

I’m a huge fan of natural fibres, thoughtful pattern design, and creating things that are as beautiful as they are meaningful.

I can't keep away from colourful yarn (I love how it brightens up any day). Mohair silk held together with another yarn is my kryptonite, and I cannot resist a textured knit. I love cables and in general new techniques that give me the chance to learn something new and find the challenge!

What You’ll Find Here

I’m all about sharing the process behind knitting, not just the finished product. So, whether you’re here for: tutorials, knitting tips and tricks, my knitting patterns, or little peeks into my knitting-filled, everyday life... you'll find it all here at AnouskaKnits. I share almost daily updates over on my IG (link in the header!)

Anouska xx
